Morality is usually defined as; concern with the distinction between good and evil or right and wrong, a system of conduct and ethics that is virtuous, or proper behavior. While usually considered a universal concept it is subject to be different given the situation, matters of consent, situation, reason or if morality itself changes.
The universal concept of morality goes hand in hand with the common definitions. Actions justified by helping the most people, while hurting as few as possible. People follow a code of ethics that is attempted to be interpreted into written laws. The basics of these laws are the same all over the world, an enormous range of traditions and thinkers have supported one form or another of moral universalism, from the ancient Platonists and Stoics, through Christians and Muslims, to modern Kantian, Objectivist, natural rights, human rights and utilitarian thinkers. The United Nations' Universal Declaration of Human Rights is an example of moral universalism in practice. While the particulars of morality will always be subject to many variables, the basics are considered as universal concepts of right and wrong.
Matters of consent in morality are highly debated by the law. Is taking a television from a store without paying still stealing, if the store owner sat back and watched you take the television without objecting, or trying to stop you? Is beating the heck out of a guy alright if he's a self admitted masochist? If someone asks to be hurt most people agree that it is 'less wrong' to hurt them, but this philosophy then would mean that accepting gifts is still wrong to some degree. To take it farther by saying that if you have someone's consent to do something to them--no matter what it is--it is moral.
Morality is subject to adapt to the situation one is in. Law states that if a person is going to be killed by another person it is considered alright to try to kill the attacker, this is known as killing in self defense. Killing a person is one of the most serious crimes, but if killing that person will save one life or more than it is considered moral. Something that was horribly immoral in one situation can become perfectly justified depending on the situation and is almost always agreed upon that 'In the situation' a person's actions were moral.
Reason is a logical method that is used to find what is real. Reasoning morality is sometimes difficult because of the emotional nature of morals. In the end morality is helping as much as possible while hurting as little as possible, this can be reasoned. Finding the motives of a situation, the person's mental state, and the history of the person can help you reason out the morality of a situation.
Morality is relative to change. As time passes things that were considered horribly wrong by the majority of the world are now accepted easily, and vice versa. A century ago wearing a skirt that ended above your knees was considered disgustingly immoral, now it is barely given a second thought. Up until 1790 burning at the stake was still a legal form of execution. As the world changes the people change also, and with them so does their morality.
